Verse – “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what He said.”
Thoughts: On Sunday Pastor Pete stated that this was our key verse. He followed it up with this statement, “I play a part in receiving God’s blessing.”
Bam, Bam a quick one two punch! Two statements that hit home. I have been a believer for several decades. I know that I am saved (blessing from God), but… There’s that little three letter word that the enemy uses to cast doubt in our minds. For me the but leads to memories of past sins which leads to shame, anger, and guilt. When I go there, I end up having a degree of doubt about my salvation. Yet on Friday evening, I read these verses in 1 John 3 16-20, “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other, let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything.” Pastor Pete gave us this fill in. “Faith: I am convinced God will do what He says.”
I do believe that God will do what He says. I believe that He is greater than my feelings of guilt. I do play a part in receiving God’s blessings. So, I will do what Pastor Pete gave us as the next fill in. “I will force myself to see God bigger than my problems.”
I know that I stumble in my walk, either by action, word, or thought. I know that God is always working on me. (So that we who are found will grow. Part of a Dream Team quote.) I do know that God is bigger than my problems. He has proven this many times over the years. I know that when I sin, it is not what He wants for me. Yet I know that He forgives and loves me. (This was reaffirmed Sunday night as I read these verses.) 1 John 5:18-20. “We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.”
Application: So, message to self, “Stop rolling around in the garbage of guilt!” I am a child of God. He has forgiven me. He is bigger than my feelings. Jesus holds me securely. I am in fellowship with God and Jesus. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life. (I have eternal salvation through him and with him!)
One prayer that all believers have had answered with a yes, is our personal prayer of salvation. (Pastor Pete’s next fill in.) “I am blessed because I believe I am blessed.”
God does not lie! He does what He says He will do. He forgives us of our sins, and… not only forgives, but also forgets. Why? Because He said He would.
“You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what He said.” AMEN!
