Weekday Devotionals
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle [you]. 1PT. 5:10
A little less than two years ago, I wrote a devotion in response to a message from Pastor Pete about how the spiritual growth ingredient of Generosity is foundational in our walk with Jesus.
At that time, we had already faced many adversities from the effects of the pandemic. Unable to meet in person. Doing weekly broadcasts from our old church offices. But then, we started meeting in person again. How great it was to be able to worship together again. Then we were back to two services. They were usually both packed. We were preparing for a formal groundbreaking for our new building.
YES... We’re back!
And that was true, however God had prepared a slightly different timeline. Of course, He didn’t really consult with any of us in establishing this new timeline. As Pastor Pete said on Sunday, “the cloud remained...” As the cloud remained, there were more adversities in front of us. Two of the worst Hurricanes to ever hit this area happened within three weeks of each other...the cloud remained. Many from our community and our church had homes flooded and lost much of their belongings, some lost everything... the cloud remained.
Supply chain issues and building costs skyrocketed... the cloud remained. The new building would have to wait. It was in that waiting that so many from our church and our community experienced God’s love and faithfulness through the ministry of Thrive and many other churches. None of this would have been possible without the faithful generosity of the church.
Fast forward to today and the clouds are moving. We have an actual groundbreaking date for March 11, God is strengthening and settling Thrive. Putting the church in a position to impact our community for generations to come. We’re seeing the word of God from 1 Peter manifest right here in our midst.
The song “Waymaker” comes to mind. As we watched Him “Move within our midst” we saw the truth of who He is: “Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper Light in the darkness, my God, That is who You are”
I’m so thankful to be able to see God work in our church and our community and to be able to play a small part in that work through the spiritual growth ingredient of Generosity.
Thankful to get to “do life” with y’all.
