Palm Sunday
John 12:12-15 The next day the great crowd that had come for the feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!” Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written*, “Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion: see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” (*quoting from Zechariah 9-9:10)
For me this is a heavy feeling week. If you are in any way versed in scripture you know what is coming. My church in Illinois used a phrase one year of “It may be Friday- But Sunday is coming”. I think of those words for comfort because we need to remember that there is a positive outcome to the Holy Week story.
In the Sunday sermon, Palm Sunday was described as when the Kingdom of God confronts the Empire of the heart. I loved the days of little ones running and gathering eggs in the yard. The squeals of joy are heard with much laughter, but is the real meaning of Easter also discussed? As we are getting ready in our Easter best, is our heart and soul giving their best to Jesus – giving him credit for what will occur this week? Pastor Aaron said that this time should be- No More Silence/ Operation Salvation! While we can be saddened by what Jesus went through for the world, we have to remember that this was also done for each one of us and OUR salvation. Jesus was not warring with Rome, but with the very hearts of his followers. That is what his final week was about – Jesus was confronting the human heart. We needed to be saved from ourselves and his desire was that everyone would
build a kingdom in their hearts for him! Are you?
No matter what dark things that might have taken up residence in your heart- no matter what you have done in prior days- no matter what you did this morning- Hand it over to the one who will take it all. Now is the time to give it to Jesus. He is waiting for you with arms open wide. It is never too late.
Peace Prayers and Love- He is Risen!
