God’s Word - Our One & Only Firm Foundation written by: Brenda Nidiffer
Verse: When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. – Proverbs 10:25
Thoughts: Ever since this past Sunday’s service, the lyrics from the song, Firm Foundation (He Won’t) have been playing on repeat in my mind and heart. Such a powerful worship song! As I have replayed the lyrics over and over, it’s been as if God has been challenging me with it. Specifically, with the following words…
Christ is my firm foundation
The Rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad
We can listen to and sing the lyrics over and over again, but when push comes to shove and it’s starting to feel like the odds are completely stacked against us, do we really believe it? Do I really believe it? Why is it so easy to gravitate towards trying to find stability & security in so many other things when the battles of life are raging? Hopefully I’m not the only one who has felt this way.
The Holy Bible, the most historically accurate and credible book of all time was inspired and written so we can know our Creator and learn of His great love for us. It is our set of instructions and ultimate guidebook for life, our only true lasting source of peace, comfort and stability.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
I’ve often heard many say, “my day just isn’t right if I don’t start it off with time in God’s word.” It is crucial to our very existence and core to make sure regular time in Scripture is a part of our daily routine. The truth found in the Bible is where we put on our armor and prepare ourselves for the battles that lie ahead (Ephesians 6:11). We are challenged, strengthened & encouraged by the time we spend in God’s presence when we read his precious words to us. No other historical, self-help or instructional book has ever come close to transforming my heart and life like the way my time in God’s word has. It has been where I have come to know my God in a very personal way. Sometimes what I read doesn’t always make sense, but I can promise you that it never returns void.
“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” – Isaiah 55:11
Application: I’ve been challenged this week to evaluate if I’ve truly made God’s word the “Firm Foundation” in absolutely every area of my life. I encourage you to take a few moments and do the same. Here are a few reflection questions that might help in the process…
-What in my life could be influencing or motivating me more than the word of God?
-What is my next step in spending time in God’s word? How can I go deeper?
-Looking back, how has spending time in the Bible changed me?
Keep pressing into Him! It’s the only pursuit that truly matters!
Much Love,
Brenda
